Lotus Lake
 |
This famous scenic area on
the northern outskirts of Kaohsiung City is
noted for its profusion of temples, with the
Confucius Temple at its northern edge and, in
the south, the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas and the
Spring and Autumn Pavilions. The lake is most
beautiful in the late afternoon, when the
setting sun is reflected in the water. Nearby
are the ruins of the Fongshan County walls and
gates, which have been designated a first-grade
historic |

Chengching Lake
 |
Chengcing (literally: crystal
clear) Lake used to be known as Dabei Lake
(literally means Big Shell), and on September 1,
1960 Chengcing Lake Scenic Area was officially
open to tourists. Situated at Niaosong Township,
Kaohsiung County, Chengcing Lake is 7 kilometres
away from Kaohsiung Railway Station; 3
kilometres from Jiouru Interchange of National
Freeway No.1. Traffic here is convenient, and
visitors can take the 60, 70, or 79 bus. The
park covers 375 hectares with the lake
accounting for 103 hectares. The Park features
eight distinctive themes. With the picturesque
landscape, Chengcing Lake Park has become one of
the must-go tourist attractions in southern
Taiwan and won the name of “West Lake of
Taiwan”.The late President Chiang Kaishek used
to be fond of the views in the Park and erected
a residential building by the Lake. The building
is now open to visitors on Sundays. In Chengcing
Lake Scenic Area, visitors can enjoy all kinds
of leisure activities ranging from sightseeing,
walking along the Lake, picnicking, hiking,
barbequing, etc. |

Cijin Peninsula

 |
Qijin (Cijin) was the origin
of Kaoshiung (Gaosyong) as well as the oldest
harbor. Therefore, there are many important
historical monuments, such as Tianhou Temple (Tianhou
Gong), Qihou Lighthouse (Cihou Dengta), and
battery. In the Qijin Coastal Park (Cijin Haian
Gongyuan), the flat sand beach and the blue sky
are splendid. Beside of the seafront trail is
the Qijin Beach. On the other side is the bike
route. The visitors can choose either the trail
or the bike route when sightseeing at Qijin.
Meanwhile, the cheap and fresh seafood in the
Old Street and the archaic tricycles are the
special features of this place.
Originally, the southern tip
of Qijin and Taiwan were connected to each
other. However, after the opening of the Second
Harbor, Qijin became an island. You can either
take the ferries at Gushan (gushan) or drive
through the cross-harbor tunnel to Qijin |

The British Consulate at
Takao

|
Built in 1865 during the
Ching Dynasty, The Former British Consulate is
located on a small hilltop overlooking Hsizuhwan
Bay. It was the first consulate and Western
style house built by the British in Taiwan. The
beautiful terrace gives it a very British
appearance. Inside features a display
of precious historical artifacts. The former
consulate is therefore another Museum of
History. Outside, the view of Hsizuhwan Bay can
be seen on one side, while the other looks out
over the Kaohsiung Port. Recently leisure and
dining areas have been added, visitors can now
enjoy a meal or a pot of tea within the
building. A new vitality has been given to the
building, making it one of the most popular
attractions in Kaohsiung. |
